On July 20, 2010 I was asked to speak at FCC's first-ever weatherization class. The slides from the class are located here. We covered a wide range of topics mostly about opportunities and challenges with current energy efficiency programs and emerging standards for weatherization and energy efficiency in California. . |

The Value of a Green Home |
|
New homes that are green sell for more, sell faster, use less electricity, and have fewer callbacks. The studies below demonstrate this fact. I think consumers will come to realize that greened up existing homes have greater value, too.

The CUAC for some is a mysterious part of the energy efficiency mix in California. Essentially builders and multi-family property owners are incentivizes for building energy efficient "dwelling units". For existing structures, upgrading energy efficiency items for tenants results in the owner to charge more rent. The theory is that the tennant will pay lower utility bills justifying higher rent. The higher rent goes to pay for upgrades in existing structures or upgrades for new construction. Adrian Ownby from the California Energy Commission walked energy consultants through the process. This webinar was the first of a series that I produced in 2009.

This webinar was produced for CalHERS on June 4, 2009. We had about 75 people on and broadcasted nationwide! Sam Raskin, national director of Energy Star for Homes gave CalHERS the inside scoop on the new Energy Star standards. Sam was in Washington DC, another presenter was in San Francisco, I was in Fresno, and those in the audience were all over California. I'm a big fan of remote meetings and this one is an example of how you can get a lot of people together without the typical logistal issues.
